                     RECEIVING MEDICAL CARE
                    AT OFF-CAMPUS FACILITIES

       B. UCSB Policies Manual, Policy 4215, UCSB Student Accident and
            Sickness Insurance Plan.

  II. POLICY:

Medical treatment received at off-campus medical care facilities and
any emergency transportation involved are not covered by the Student
Health Service and must be paid for by the student or insurance
       carrier.

       A. Referrals:

The Student Health Service may refer certain individuals to
off-campus medical care facilities for services. Such referrals
            apply to:

            1. Any individual receiving initial medical care at the
Health Service for emergency or compassionate reasons, who
is otherwise ineligible for Student Health Service cover
age, but who requires medical follow-up beyond the initial
care received at the Health Service.

            2. Any individual who is ineligible for Student Health
coverage and whose medical problems can safely be referred
off-campus without receiving initial care at the Health
Service and without endangering his/her health or
                 well-being.

            3. Student eligible for Student Health service coverage, but
requiring care beyond the capabilities of the Health
                 Service.

       B. After-Hours Emergency Care:

Students who are eligible for Student Health Service coverage
who receive treatment off-campus must pay for these services.
This includes those students who are treated at one of the
off-campus community hospitals during the hours that a doctor
is not on duty at the Student Health Service. It is strongly
urged that all students possess sufficient health insurance
(e.g., Student Accident and Sickness Plan) to cover unexpected
            expense of emergency off-campus care.
