USE OF CLIFF HOUSE
I. REFERENCES

II. POLICY:
The Cliff House, located on west campus, provides the University
with a close-in conference facility in a rustic lodge setting. The
Cliff House is available for use by students, faculty, staff, and
the community for University-related functions. Non-
University related functions are permitted on a limited basis.
Particular attention will be given to the needs of student
organizations wishing to use the Cliff House. A fee will be assessed
all users to provide for the maintenance of the building and
grounds.
A. Use:
1. The Cliff House is to be used primarily for extended
meetings more than four (4) hours in duration and
conferences. However, special social functions (i.e.,
departmental receptions) may be appropriate.
2. The Cliff House may not be used as a classroom or for
parties or dances.
3. Catered meals through UCen Food Services (x2465), as part
of meetings or conferences, are permitted; however due to
limited cooking facilities, full meal preparation in the
Cliff House is not permitted.
4. Suitability of a particular event for scheduling into the
Cliff House shall be determined by the University Center
Administration. The University Center Administration is
responsible for scheduling events deemed appropriate
within applicable guidelines.
B. Scheduling:
1. Reservations for use of the Cliff House are made through
the University Center Scheduling Coordinator, 893-3961.
The Cliff House is available Monday-Sunday from 8:00 am to
10:00 pm and is limited to half-day or longer conferences.
There are no overnight accommodations on west campus.
2. Requests for Cliff House must be made forty-eight (48)
hours in advance of each proposed use.
3. Cancellations must be made 3 days prior to an event date,
in order to not be assessed the rental fee.
C. Charges:
1. All student organizations using the Cliff House for
University related functions will be charged a fee of
$40.00 per day.
2. University departments using the Cliff House for
University related functions will be charged a fee of
$50.00 per day.
3. Non-Profit organizations will be assessed the rate of
$125.00 per day.
4. All individuals, non-University organizations, or groups
using the Cliff House for non-University related functions
will be charged a fee of $300.00 per day. Persons wishing
to reserve the Cliff House for weddings will be charged a
fee of $250.00 per day.
5. A cleaning/damage deposit of $250 is required for wedding
receptions, off-campus & non-profit users; registered
student organizations must remit a cleaning/damage deposit
of $25 (daytime event: 8 a.m.-5 p.m.) or $75.00 (evening
event: 5 p.m.-lO p.m.) in the form of a check made payable
to the Regents of the University of California. or
evidence of an encumbrance for registered campus student
organizations or campus departments. This deposit is
refundable provided the facility does not require
excessive cleaning or repair of damage following the
scheduled event. Should cleaning or damages exceed this
amount, the scheduling group will be liable for the
difference. Following their event, campus departments will
be re-charged for $30 rental and any cleaning/damages, as
determined. The Cliff House caretaker will assess the
extent of cleaning/damage following each scheduled event.
6. Charges will be explained at the time dates are requested.
All fees and deposits are due at the time Cliff House keys
are given to the group.
7. The Rate and Recharge Committee will periodically review
all charges and fees to determine their appropriateness.
D. Parking:
1. Cliff House parking permits are required for all events. All vehicles must
park outside the gate, inside parking is for loading and unloading only.
No more than 40 cars are allowed. Obtain permits directly at Parking
Services 893-2346.
2. The University Center Scheduling Coordinator will provide
Parking Services and Campus Police with information
indicating the time and date of each event and number of
participants.
E. Facilities:
1. The Cliff House is a 2-room facility which accommodates
75-100 people. It has a large fireplace, couches, and
easy chairs. An additional 50 folding chairs are available
There are also at least six 6' folding tables.
2. There is a small refrigerator, small oven and range, and
sink in the kitchen. The oven and range may only be used
to warm items prepared elsewhere.
3. The Cliff House has restroom facilities to accommodate the
handicapped.
4. There is a large patio area outside the Cliff House which
is not furnished. However, picnic tables are available in
the outdoor area.
5. Users must furnish all supplies including additional
chairs if needed, utensils and dishware, coffee pots, hand
and cleaning towels, napkins, etc.
F. Clean-Up and Use Guidelines:
1. Groups shall be limited to 75-100 people per usage.
2. Alcohol use shall follow all state laws and University
regulations.
3. No live music is allowed at Cliff House functions.
4. Put tables and chairs back in storage room as found.
5. All furniture shall be returned to original set-up. No
furniture should be taken outside.
6. Vacuum carpet and mop tile floors. All necessary items for
clean-up are available. Any damaged or missing items from
the utility closet will be charged to the group
responsible.
7. Groups will be responsible for cleaning tar from carpet or
tile floors or be charged the entire deposit.
8. Groups eating in carpeted area should be advised that they
will be charged for food and drink spots on the carpet.
9. All groups using stove, oven, or refrigerator should make
sure they are left clean. They will be charged if the
above items are left dirty.
10. Areas immediately outside Cliff House shall be left clean
and all trash thrown in dumpster.
11. Inside trash cans should be emptied in dumpster and
returned to proper location.
12. Groups using the fireplace will have to make arrangements
for their own wood. No cutting of wood inside the house.
Any wood cutting must be done outside.
13. Upon exit, all windows and doors should be properly
secured and key immediately returned to UCen
Administration Office. Failure to return key within a day
after your event may result in loss of deposit.
14. Cliff House has a 10:00 pm curfew. Clean-up must be
completed by that time.
15. Please respect all personal belongings of caretaker
(including closet areas) and respect their privacy by
following guidelines and ending your event by 10:00 pm.
16. Cleaning deposit will be retained by Cliff House
Scheduling/UCen Administration until damage report is
submitted.
17. Groups can, and will, be assessed additional charges for
any damages or missing items.
18. If any of the above items are neglected, the entire
deposit will be forfeited.
