                 DISPLAY OF ART AND ART OBJECTS
  
  I.   REFERENCES
  
       A.   Minutes of Meeting, Physical Planning Committee, February 13,
            1973.
       
       B.   UCSB Policies Manual, Policy 5506, Defacement of Interior
            Surfaces.
  
  II.  POLICY:
  
       Art and art objects (including but not limited to paintings,
       sculpture and murals) may be displayed either temporarily or
       permanently on the UCSB campus only as indicated below:
  
       A.   The Art Objects Subcommittee will review and recommend to the
            Physical Planning Committee on the art, the location and the
            display design of all art objects, except those to be displayed
            in individual offices, the University Art Museum, or in display
            cases, which must be approved by the department concerned.
            These works may not be displayed "for sale.'' (The Art Objects
            Subcommittee will consult with the requester as necessary and
            will notify the Campus Planning Committee of its
            recommendation.)
       
       B.   The University will bear no responsibility for these works. An
            Agreement for display of art and art objects must be signed in
            the Business Services Office for all art work displayed, except
            that to be shown in individual offices, the University Art
            Museum, or in display cases.
       
       C.   In accordance with the University of California at Santa
            Barbara Campus Regulations Applying to Campus Activities,
            Organizations and Students, commercial advertisements, posters
            and literature are not permitted to be posted on campus. Except
            as specifically permitted, non-University organizations or
            persons are not permitted to post on campus.
       
       D.   Physical damage to walls, etc., must be avoided. See UCSB
            Policy 5506. Upon advice of the Art Objects Subcommittee, the
            Facilities Management Department may be asked to participate in
            arranging the display. The cost of such work shall be borne by
            the department sponsoring the display, including any
            restoration costs.
