SKATEBOARDING AND ROLLERSKATING
I. REFERENCES:
A. State of California Vehicle Code (1986 Edition), Sections
21113(f), 21967, 21968, and 21969.
B. UCSB Campus Regulations Applying to Campus Activities,
Organizations and Students, Chapter V: Student Conduct and
Discipline.
II. POLICY:
A. Skateboards and rollerskates on University property are
permitted when used primarily for transportation.
B. Skateboarding and rollerskating are permitted on open walkways
provided they do not constitute a hazard to pedestrians,
bicyclists or disabled persons, disrupt classes or damage
property. (Skateboarding and rollerskating are prohibited on
covered walks, bikeways, roads, parking lots, underpasses,
interior courtyards, inside buildings, exterior balconies, stairs
and handicapped ramps.)
C. Skateboards and rollerskates may be carried (but not ridden)
into campus buildings and classrooms as long as they do not
create an obstruction/ trip hazard or damage University
property.
D. Skateboard riders and rollerskaters must use extreme caution at
all times when traveling on campus and remain mindful of the
rights of others for a safe campus environment.
E. Skateboarders and rollerskaters may not be towed by bicycles or
other vehicles.
F. Skateboarding and rollerskating are prohibited while under the
influence of an alcoholic beverage and/or mobility impairing
drug.
G. Wearing radio/cassette headphones while skateboarding and
rollerskating is prohibited.
H. Skateboarders and rollerskaters will be subject to disciplinary
action for failure to stop at the scene of an accident where
they have been involved in property damage and/or injury.
Identification must be presented to the other party and the
accident reported to the University Police Department.
I. University Police, or their designees, may enforce the law
pursuant to the California Vehicle Code. The University may
seek compensatory damages if University property is damaged or
destroyed. If the involved party is a student, he or she may be
subject to disciplinary action by the Dean of Students Office.
