Information Systems and Computing announces the availability of Simeon, an electronic mail (Email) system. Simeon provides a highly effective tool for creating, organizing, sending and receiving messages.
IS&C will provide:
- Installation of the Simeon/Execmail and Mulberry client software for on-campus workstations.
- Customer training and assistance.
- During regular business hours trouble reports or questions to:

- Email directory information using Simeon’s Address Book service containing UCSB staff and faculty. IS&C offers a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) directory accessible from the Execmail client.
- Campus emergency information.
- On-line tips and suggestions for using Simeon.

Access
IS&C’s Simeon Email service is available through the UCSB campus network and the Internet using the TCP/IP protocol.
Those wishing to access Simeon Email from home, or while traveling, can dial into the UCSB modem pool (893-8400) or an Internet Service Provider (ISP). The remote workstation must have the TCP/IP and PPP protocols installed and properly configured.1 An installation diskette, for the appropriate client, will be provided to those wishing to install Simeon at home.
Simeon Account:
Five (5) megabytes of disk storage, unlimited Email and connect time will be provided for a (flat) monthly fee of $12.30. Disk usage beyond 5 MB will charged at $0.40/MB per month. Note that disk space used by unread email will be included in the disk space calculation.
Individual userids will be provided by IS&C. The user identifier will be created using the same scheme as is used on IS&C’s "COMPLETE" service.
Electronic Mail Address
The following address will be used for sending Email to a Simeon user:
First.Last@Department.UCSB.EDU
"First" - Your commonly used first name (provided to us by you)
"Department" - The name (or abbreviation) chosen by the department’s manager
If the First.Last combination is already being used by someone else, you must choose a different variation of your commonly used first name.

1 ISP's differ on support for various protocols. If you are unable to use Simeon through your ISP, please let us know.
