Information Systems & Computing (IS&C) provides general computing services, systems analysis, and programming. IS&C is comprised of the Information Systems Office and the Computer Center. The IS&C Information Systems Office provides business systems analysis and develops and maintains applications software systems and databases in support of administrative functions. IS&C specializes in systems which gather transactions and data from multiple customer departments and integrate those data into campus-wide databases and reports. The IS&C Computer Center provides computing platforms and servers on which to operate software systems built or acquired by UCSB. IS&C supports more than seventy software systems that the campus has acquired or constructed over the past twenty years. In addition to the operation and continued development of these systems, IS&C computing groups provide electronic mail services, calendaring/scheduling, web site support, network access, workstation support, server support, and facility support. Looking to the future, IS&C will continue to support those services which transcend the scope of a single department. Further, IS&C will coordinate the implementation of an administrative computing architecture that will permit individual departments to develop their own computing services while continuing to share data elements and participate in automated interactions with other units. IS&C will also support a standard set of computing services directed at those units which are too small (or do not have the inclination) to support computing themselves. Thus, IS&C will provide a "safety net" to assure that all UCSB units have access to information technology necessary to participate in the networked world of the future.
