UCSB Mail Services is the central mail facility delivering mail throughout
the campus. We prepare and process an average of 21,000 pieces of University
mail per day.
Mail Services is dedicated to the timely processing and delivery of interdepartmental
and US Postal Service (USPS) mail and related services. We provide an
essential link, ensuring the efficient flow of mail between the US Postal
Service and the campus community.
Since Mail Services handles correspondence related to University business
only, faculty and staff should make arrangements to receive personal mail
at home.
This guide was developed to help our customers comply with postal regulations
so that mail reaches its destination more efficiently. It contains information
about customer services, mail preparation, and other facts that are basic
to institutional mailing needs.
The Mail Services Department is dedicated to serving the requirements
of campus postal users. If you have suggestion or comments, we would like
to know about them, or if you need further information that is not contained
here, call us at x3595.

Delivery and collection schedules are set by Mail Services based on building
locations and mail volume. There are nine mail routes which may have a morning delivery between 8:00a.m. – 9:15a.m. or an afternoon delivery between 1:00p.m. – 2:15p.m. Morning deliveries are for routes 1, 3, 5 and 7. Afternoon deliveries are for routes 2, 4, 6 and 8. Route nine delivery time is at 11:00a.m. Complete listings of route numbers are located on the Mail Code listing sheet. For most departments a combined collection
and delivery is performed once everyday.
Our carriers do not collect or deliver mail to unauthorized areas. Changes
in delivery or pick-up location must first be authorized by Mail Services.
Requests for new, or changes to existing stops, can be requested by completing
and submitting the appropriate Form.
To facilitate service, all departments should establish a standard location
for mail delivery and pick-up, providing three labeled boxes for:
- incoming mail
- off-campus (outgoing) mail
- campus mail
Your off-campus mail will be processed more quickly if it is separated
or bundled by group, as follows:
- Stamped
- To Be Metered
- International
- Special Services by USPS

Incoming mail is considered to be all U.S. Postal Service (USPS) mail
and mail from other UC campuses. We receive our mail from USPS every morning
at approximately 9:00 am. It is then processed and delivered to each designated
collection point during the campus' standard hours of operation. Each
department receives mail in the early morning or early afternoon. The
use of mail codes will help ensure the
most efficient mail sorting and delivery possible.
For all FedEx, UPS and all other carrier service, please call Shipping
