| Complaint Resolution |
The campus strongly encourages informal resolution as a first step prior to filing a formal complaint. People with disabilities who feel their needs related to access and/or accommodations are not being addressed are encouraged to contact a department head, Dean and/or one of the following offices for assistance in resolving their concerns: ADA Compliance Officer Graduate Division (Graduate Students) Formal complaints or grievances must be filed with the appropriate offices, listed below:Students Office of the Vice Chancellor, Student Affairs Faculty Office of the Associate Vice Chancellor, Academic Personnel Staff (including Non-Senate Instructors and Librarians) Employee & Labor Relations General Public ADA Compliance Officer Other Mechanisms Available for ComplaintsWherever appropriate, the law emphasizes the use of alternative means of dispute resolution including settlement negotiations, conciliation, mediation, fact-finding or arbitration. Individuals who believe they have been discriminated against may also file a written complaint within 180 days from the date of the alleged discrimination with any federal agency that has jurisdiction over the University. Complaints may be filed with the funding agency, the Office of Civil Rights, or the Department of Justice. Alternatively, a civil lawsuit may be filed in federal court. |
